That TVLINE article has to be the biggest ‘Let’s Cover Our Asses After The Fact’ press release I’ve ever seen in my life.  There has been so much backlash because of this episode, and Messer is hoping to deflect the hate being focused on her as boss and Breen as writer by saying that Matthew approved of the storyline beforehand?

Let’s take a minute and give this a reality check.  Matthew is Messer’s employee.  He has only as much say about the storyline of any episode as she, as show runner and boss, is willing to give him.  In the end, the final decision, and the blame, falls on Erica Messer.  So she needs to stop deflecting that blame and take the criticism she’s being given.
